This piece was born from the sorrow of being unable to attend my grandparents' funerals in China. Through the act of cutting, I found a way to process grief and reflect on the traditions surrounding death in Chinese culture. A Chinese funeral is a collision of contradictions—dense crowds, piercing music, the thick scent of incense. It is both mourning and celebration, a chaotic yet tender reckoning with mortality. In this space of extremes, we confront the impossible, holding onto the belief that life and memory persist beyond loss.
